Date set for inaugural St. Patrick’s Day parade
Committee to host fundraiser at Johnny Mac's in September
Asbury Park will see its first-ever St. Patrick’s Day parade next year.
The Asbury Park St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee is in the initial planning stages for the event, scheduled for Sunday, March 9, 2014, according to the parade website.
The tentative parade route will start at Fourth and Ocean avenues and travel south on Ocean Avenue where it will turn east and travel the length of Cookman Avenue before heading north on Main Street and end at Johnny Mac House of Spirits, said Jackie Pappas, executive director of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce.
A judge’s grandstand will also be constructed at Press Plaza, where it intersects with Cookman Avenue.
Several fundraisers for the event will be take place in the months ahead, Pappas said.
The first fundraiser will be held at Johnny Mac House of Spirits on Sept. 21. Details for the Johnny Mac’s event will be solidified within a week or so, Pappas said. So far, attendees can expect live music. Tickets will be available at Johnny Mac’s within the next two weeks. Prices are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
Other events include a mini-golf outing on the Asbury Eighteen miniature golf course on Ocean and Second avenues and a raffle for a trip to Ireland.
An official logo for the event is being designed by Syracuse Signs in Neptune, Pappas said.
