Deal & APPD Warn of Theft Ring Operating in Monmouth County
Deal Officers Suspended Tuesday Morning Stolen Vehicle Chase Due To High Rates of Speed
Due to two early morning pursuits of stolen vehicles, suspended due to high rates of speed, Deal Police Department are reminding residents that high end vehicles are being targeted by a theft ring operating in Monmouth County.
At approximately 3 am Thursday Ptl Jeff Kless attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the area of Poplar and Almyr avenues, official said in a written statement. But as he attempted to detain the suspicious vehicle, a black four door BMW, it fled the area and chase ensued.
A plate inquiry revealed the vehicle was reported stolen out of Freehold on June 18.
Sgt Nick Vaccaro joined the pursuit but terminated the chase in the area of Deal Road and Route 35 in Ocean Township due to the high rate of speed, officials said.
Close to an hour later, Vaccaro observed suspicious activity in the area of Parker Ave and Norwood. A motor vehicle stop on a dark colored Range Rover also resulted in the vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed and a second vehicle pursuit was initiated.
Officials said a similar vehicle was reported stolen out of Oceanport that night. Kless joined the pursuit, which was suspended near the intersection of Routes 35 and 36 in Eatontown due to the high rate of speed.
The police department are reminding residents to lock vehicles and remove the keys or fobs, and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
Ptl Joe Ammaturo also investigated.
Last week, both Deal and the Asbury Park Police Department issued a similar warning, asking vehicle owners to lock their doors and to be cognizant about leaving valuable items out in plain sight.
Do not leave items visible like GPS units, cell phones, laptops or any other small electronics inside your car, the APPD warning stated. If you must leave items in your car, store them in the trunk so they are not visible. Lock your doors and glove compartment and arm anti-theft devices such as your car alarm. Try to park in well-lit parking areas so a potential thief could be seen if attempting to get into your car. Never leave keys inside your vehicle, even if they cannot be seen.
