Deal Awarded $1.6 million in Sandy Funding
FEMA Grant Applied to Conover Pavilion and Parking Lot Restoration
The Conover Pavilion restoration may be complete, but now through a Superstorm Sandy Federal Emergency Management grant, the bill will be paid.
The coastal borough, like many communities along the Jersey Shore sustained massive damages to its waterfront structures and beaches. In the weeks and months following Superstorm Sandy, the Borough took immediate recovery actions, some of which are ongoing and continue to date, according to a T&M Associates report.
The Middletown-based engineering firm was assisted 1.2-mile community in formulating a recovery plan that included adopting FEMA Advisory Base Flood Elevations.
On Tuesday, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr [NJ-06] announced that $1,619,466.55 in federal funding will be reimbursed for the replacement of the Conover Pavilion and to repair a parking lot damaged as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
Pallone said the area sustained significant damage during Sandy and the FEMA funding, which will pay for 90% of the total project cost, will work to restore the area to pre-storm conditions.
“This critical funding will help reimburse Deal for repairs in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy,” Pallone said. “Residents of Deal have shown tremendous resiliencey in the five years since Sandy and grants like this provide much-needed financial relief to our local governments as communities recover from Sandy.”
Pallone helped pass the Superstorm Sandy Supplemental Appropriations bill in 2013, bringing the total Sandy aid enacted by Congress to $60.2 billion. It included federal aid to help homeowners, businesses, and communities recover, and provided resources to rebuild coastal, transportation, and water infrastructure.
Deal officials could not be reached for comment at the time of this posting.
