Democratic Candidates Rally Ahead Of Nov 7 Election
Al Gore stomps for Democratic ticket in Ocean Township Sunday
The campaign push to win seats during the November 7 election continues with a host of candidate forums, debates and rallies.
On Sunday former Vice President Al Gore will join gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy’s wife Tammy, Congressman Frank Pallone, Senate Candidate Vin Gopal, and incumbents Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Joann Downey for a rally in support of Democratic candidates on the November ballot.
Sponsored by the Monmouth County Democrats, the event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Ocean Township Community Gym, located at 1100 West Park Ave. To register, click here or call 732-739-8888.
Also on the calendar is the launch of an Annual Democratic Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.
The meet and greet event will give attendees an opportunity to interact with Houghtaling and Downey, Gopal, and Neptune Township Committee candidate Kevin McMillan. Second Baptist pastor Semaj Vanzant will be the featured guest.
The breakfast menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, tea, orange juice and soda at a cost of $14; free for children under age 7.

On Monday, The League of Women Voters of the Township of Ocean will host a NJ Senate and 11th District Candidates’ Forum in Wilson Hall at Monmouth University, located at 400 Cedar Ave.
The 11th district is comprised of the following Monmouth County towns: Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Deal, Eatontown, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Interlaken, Loch Arbor, Long Branch, Neptune City, Neptune Township, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls and West Long Branch.
Participating candidates include Senate incumbent Jennifer Beck and challenger Vin Gopal; and Assembly incumbents Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling, being challenged by Robert Acerra and Michael Whelan.
The 7 p.m. forum will include opening statements from the candidates, followed by timed responses to questions from the audience [submitted in writing], and closing statements.

Voters will have an opportunity to meet those vying for assembly seats during the 2017 Candidates Forum being hosted by the Monmouth County Democrats Black American Caucus and St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, in conjunction with the Monmouth County Democratic Progressive Caucus, Neighbor2Neighbor Ocean Township, and the Monmouth County Democrats LGBTQ Caucus.
Held at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at St. Augustine’s Church, located at 155 Prospect Ave, the event features Democratic candidates from the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 30th legislative districts.
They include Assembly incumbents Joanne Downey and Eric Houghtaling, and Senate candidate Vin Gopal from the 11th district; Assembly candidates Gene Davis and Nirav Patel, and Senate candidate David Lande from the 12th district; Assembly candidates Mariel Didato and Tom Giaimo, and Senate candidate Sean Byrnes form the 13th district; Assembly candidates Eliot Colon and Kevin Scott, and Senate candidate Amy Cores from the 30th district.
