Democrats United to Dump Trump event
Tuesday 6 p.m. forum and fundraiser at Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten
The Asbury Park Democratic Organization will host Democrats United to Dump Trump Tuesday at the Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten on Lake Avenue.
This will be their first fundraising event in almost five years, Chairman Joe Grillo said.
“Asbury Park is one of the most diverse, most tolerant and most progressive small cities in America,” he said. “Trump’s hateful rhetoric against immigrants, Latinos/Latinas, and women, his obstinance on appointing Supreme Court justices that would curtail civil rights, LGBTQ rights and abortion rights, and his remorseless attacks on the legacies of veterans like Senator John McCain and Captain Humayun Khan, is in direct contradiction to the values of our awesome city and its residents.”
The event, held from 6 to 8 p.m., will feature special guest speaker Steve Fulop [at right], Jersey City Mayor and 2017 gubernatorial hopeful.
“Like many translplants to Asbury, I was born and bred in Jersey City, now the fastest-growing city in the Northeast. I’m honored that Mayor Fulop is coming to lend a hand to support Asbury Park’s Democratic Party,” Committee member Joseph Pepe said.
Special guests also include Assemblypersons Eric Houghtaling and Joann Kagan Downey, US Army Colonel Jeff Cantor for Monmouth County Sheriff, Belmar Mayor and Democratic Freeholder candidate Matt Doherty, Democratic Freeholder Candidate Sue Fulton, and Surrogate candidate Vincent Solomeno. Former Mayor Ed Johnson will present the opening remarks.
“I am looking forward to rallying AP Democrats, to help energize them for the November 2016 election by sharing a vision which lays the groundwork for change here in NJ in 2017,” Johnson said in a written statement.
The event will be held on the Biergarten’s rooftop, with DJ Sara M spinning in the background.
All proceeds will go toward registering new residents in Asbury and to support the entire Democratic ticket in November, Grillo said.
The Democratic Committee has hosted a series of town hall events this year to help inform registered voters. They include forums with U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone [D-6], Assemblyman John Wisniewski [D-19], Middlesex County Freeholder Kenneth ArmwoodWest Point graduate, LGBTQ activist and Asbury Park resident Sue Fulton, and former New Jersey Secretary of State and Pastor of Allen AME in Atlantic City Rev. Regena Thomas.
The Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten is located at 547 Lake Ave. The suggested general admission is $35 and sponsorship opportunities are available. Cash, check and credit card donations will be accepted at the door, and for more information or to make a donation, click here.
