Detours from gas line work to end later this month
Over ten miles of distribution mains replaced throughout Asbury Park
Road detours caused by a year-long project to replace 10.5 miles of natural gas distribution mains in Asbury Park are expected to end later this month.
New Jersey Natural Gas is undertaking the project in five phases, according to NJNG spokesperson Michael Kinney. The project is currently in its last phase, and that phase will be completed by the end of August, he said.
Kinney said the company made an effort to avoid traffic disruptions. “We worked with city officials to determine what time to do the work to minimize the impact,” he said. The work was undertaken in all sections of the city, said Kinney.
The project began in June of last year. Kinney described the work as “part of our efforts to improve the integrity and reliability of our system.”
Currently, main replacement work is being undertaken on Bangs Avenue [shown above]. Aside from the Bangs Avenue work, there will be some minor work to do later in the month in other parts of the city, Kinney said.
In September and October, NJNG will work with the city engineer and city officials on basic trench repair, as well as some paving and milling work, said Kinney.
The contractor on the project is the J.F. Kiely Construction Company in Long Branch.
