DiLieto: A-Team ‘perfect combination of candidates’
Group can 'bring our city into what will be its best years yet'
Editor, the Asbury Park Sun:
The A-Team has five perfect candidates who are seeking to win the upcoming city council election on May 14.
First, Remond Palmer has demonstrated leadership in the community for decades. He is determined to design high-quality, culturally relevant programs that are available for our children to enrich their lives and broaden their experiences. Palmer is an expert in designing athletic programs and organizations to get the children of Asbury Park enrolled in positive, safe, fun programs that were never offered before. Remond is also able to listen to problems and lead meetings better than anyone I have ever seen. He is able to get to the heart of the matter — often with just one question.
Next, Duanne Small is uniquely qualified to unite this city. He is a perfect example of how a struggling kid from the southwest side can become actively and positively engaged in the city — and ultimately a leader in the comunity. He has been able to cross barriers and deal effectively with people from all walks of life. His commitment to compromise with the best interests of everyone is his best quality. He can speak with and make connections with everyone while maintaining his mission to help those who need it most.
Nora Hyland is a professor at Rutgers University who teaches urban education. She is prepared to bring her experience and knowledge to our community to help establish needed ties between the school district and the city council. She has proven to be an outstanding researcher and problem-solver, able to look at problems from new perspectives.
Danny Harris is a teacher and athletic director with over 25 years in the Newark school systems. He knows how to be a leader in Newark — one of the largest, most challenging school districts in the state. Danny is clearly the man for the job. He has experience in management and finance and is able to see how systems can work most effectively.
And last but not least, James Keady’s education and work ethic are second to none. Jim will not stop working until this city is back on the map where it once was 50 years ago. Jim, through his nonprofit organization, has taken on one of the largest companies in the world and won many battles for hundreds of workers in Indonesia who were mistreated and underpaid by Nike. Jim even moved to Indonesia to experience what these workers went through. This willingness to go to unbelievable lengths to learn about a problem, identify his position on that problem, and establish a plan to solve that problem is a great quality for a city councilman. Jim brings a wealth of knowledge about the city and has already begun to get the community up to speed on the city’s financial and legal issues.
The A-Team is the perfect combination of candidates to bring our city into what will be its best years yet. Vote A-Team on May 14.
