Dog park committee proposes Sunset Park location
Group seeks feedback at June 6 meeting
After months of research and meetings, the dog park committee is proposing a location for a place in the city where dogs can run off-leash.
The committee, which was formed in August 2012, has picked the stretch of Sunset Park between Bond and Emory streets for the dog park, city manager and committee member Terence Reidy said today. All residents who live within 200 feet of the location have been notified by mail.
The public is invited to a meeting on June 6 at 7 p.m. in council chambers, where the dog park committee will present research and plans and listen to feedback from residents.
Reidy emphasized that the Sunset Park [pictured above] location is only a tentative proposal at this time. The dog park would come at no cost to taxpayers, as the committee plans to fundraise and seek grants to cover costs.
A landscape architect is donating time to create plans for the park, Reidy said.
Previous plans to implement a dog park in Library Square Park were unsuccessful after residents attended council meetings to protest the park’s location. This time, committee members are hoping to take a more interactive approach so that residents are kept in the know throughout the process.
