Dogs Parade State in Support of Clean Water and Beaches
Annual Sandy Paws Dog Walk 10 a.m. Saturday in Asbury Park
Tail waggers of all breeds and sizes will march in unison Saturday in support of Clean Ocean Action [COA].
The annual fundraising event is not only an opportunity for dogs to strut en masse, but helps draw awareness to the environmental nonprofit’s mission to keep ocean waters clear of pollutants.
Held throughout the state, some dog owners opt to outfit their canines for the parade/beach cleanup along state beaches and waterfronts.
In Asbury Park, the Sandy Paws Walk FUR Clean Ocean, returns to the city’s beachfront with participants gathering at 10 a.m. on the boardwalk north of Convention Hall.
Fundraising can be done as part of pack or independently and the local event features a costume contest with prizes issued for a range of categories, including “Like Pet, Like Owner,” “Diva Dog” and “Most Seaworthy.”
Sandy Paws organizers said there will be free giveaways, vendors, and even dog tattoos for the adventurers setting out to help their owners collect debris.
The reward will be an after party from noon to 3 p.m. at the Wonder Bar [1213 Ocean Ave] where the first place 2016 Sandy Paws ‘Top Dog’ title will be given to the top fundraiser. Prizes will also be given for runner up dogs and those who best in the costume categories.
There will be free dog ice cream, ‘Smooch Your Pooch Booth’ and drink specials by Vodka for Dog People.
