Earth Day Celebrated With Rally & Protest
City's ESTC, Women's March AP, Surfrider Foundation, & Others Gather For Environmental Protection
Earth Day celebrations, in part, may have been postponed by a day due to inclement weather but that did not stop hundreds from turning out Sunday in support of a collaborative mission to preserve local [and global] environmental resources.
The day began with hundreds gathering for the Earth Day Creative Protest at Sixth Avenue beach to send a direct message to the White House: Fund EPA.
The gathering was a collaboration between the Asbury Park Environmental Shade and Tree Commission and Women’s March Asbury Park organizers.
Below is APTV’s coverage of the event:

The afternoon Earth Day Rally on the Roof hosted by Surfrider and Asbury Park Festhalle & Biergarten raised over $3,300 in furtherance of their beach access for all campaign.
Surfrider Foundation Jersey Shore Chapter Co-Chair Andrew L. Chambarry said seasonal beach badges will be purchased and distributed to west side community organizations and churches.
The fundraiser was the brainchild of city resident and Surfrider Foundation member Diane Pittet who said she was motivated to provide beach access for west side families who may not be able to afford the seasonal or daily access fees.
The event also featured comments from local environmentalist Joyce Grant and former Surfrider Chapter Chair and City Council member Joe Woerner. Also sharing the political importance of environmental protections were Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, Democratic Monmouth County Freeholder candidates Margie Donlon and Brian Wilton, Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten owner and AP Women’s March co founder Jen Lampert, and 11th District Senate candidate Vin Gopal.
Three lucky winners took home the grand prize 8′ Kai foam board, a 6’6″ Custom Takanassee Handshapes board, and a 1960’s vintage American Western flyer bicycle from Second Life Bikes. Vendor participation included:
– COBRA: Citizens in Opposition to Beach Restrictive Access
