Expungement Info Session Open to Youth and Adults
Asbury CAN sponsored event 7 p.m. Friday at St. Stephens Church
The next phase of assisting residents with the expungement process kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Stephens AMEZ Church on Springwood Ave.
Expungement asks courts and/or law enforcement agencies to modify, seal, or eliminate criminal records. Once complete, a criminal record cannot be viewed by the public and recipients do not have to disclose past criminal activity to employers or landlords.
The Asbury Park Community Action Network [CAN] sponsored an initial information session on Feb. 24. Friday’s event is primarily catered to Monmouth County residents who have acquired dispositions from their respective courts and have filled out the appropriate paperwork, organizers said.
The event will also provide answers for those interested in the process or needing help with managing the next steps of the process.
Asbury CAN is comprised of city residents, clergy, and officials who seek to reduce violence in the 1.6 square-mile community. They offer support with health, law enforcement, job, family, housing and education.
The information session is open to youth and adults. Attorneys will be on hand to discuss cases and help with the process.
St. Stephen’s is located at 1001 Springwood Ave. For more information, call 732-361-0952.
