Family Day at the Beach takes place Saturday
Family Fun day includes surf lessons, ocean awareness
The 9th annual Asbury Park Family Day at the Beach takes place this Saturday, July 26, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Eighth Avenue beach.
Organized by the local Jersey Shore Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation – a world-wide non-profit environmental organization that works to preserve and protect beaches as natural resources – the event serves as the local chapter’s way to give back to the community.
Scores of youngsters from Asbury Park and Neptune and their parents are expected to take part in this special day at the beach sponsored by the local chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and many other area groups, with the support of the City of Asbury Park, according to a foundation news release.

Planned activities include: Beach safety tips, surfing lessons, coastal life treasure hunt, beach games, music and a beach cleanup. Surfing lessons will take place at about 12:30 p.m.
The Eighth Avenue beach, also known as the North End beach, is the city’s only designated surfing beach.
Registration for the event begins at 11:30 a.m. A rain date is scheduled for July 27.
Event co-sponsors and supporters include: Asbury Park Education Association; the City of Asbury Park, Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County, West Side Community Center, Summertime Surf School, Pop’s Garage, Langosta Lounge, Libby’s and Lightly Salted and other local restaurants.
