Family of three arrested on handgun and drug charges

all remanded into custody with cash only bail

The serving of a warrant resulted in handgun , drug possession and intent to distribute drug charges for a family of three.

Asbury Park Police Department spokesman Patrolman Michael Casey said the city’s Street Crimes Unit responded Wednesday to a Third Avenue home to serve an aggravated assault warrant against 36-year-old Ronnell Williams.

While placing Williams under arrest, police detected “the strong odor of raw and burnt marijuana coming from inside the apartment,” Casey said.

A consent to search given by tenant Wayne Bright, 59, yielded three handguns, heroin paraphernalia, a ballistic vest, and marijuana in a back bedroom of the apartment, Casey said.

Williams was charged with aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia used to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance within 500 feet of a park, three counts of possession of firearms, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of firearms while committing a controlled dangerous substance offense, a certain person not to possess a weapon violation, and possession of under 50 grams of a controlled and dangerous substance. His cash only bail was set at $250,000, meaning no allowance of a 10 percent bond.

Bright was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia used to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance within 500 feet of a park, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of firearms while committing a controlled and dangerous offense, a certain person not to possess a weapon violation, and possession of under 50 grams of a controlled and dangerous substance. His cash only bail was set at $2,500, meaning no allowance of a 10 percent bond.

The third person charged was said to be Bright’s fiancée 50-year-old Tammy Williams.

She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia used to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled and dangerous substance within 500 feet of a park, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of firearms while committing a controlled and dangerous offense, and possession of under 50 grams of a controlled and dangerous substance. Her cash only bail was set at $2,500, meaning no allowance of a 10 percent bond.
