Farmer’s Markets launch across the state this weekend
Asbury Fresh 4th season includes Thursday night opening
Asbury Park joins the close to 150 communities across the state opening Farmer’s Markets this weekend, according to the NJ Dept. of Agriculture.
“Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables are here and one of the best ways to find them is by visiting your local community farmers market,” said Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher Wednesday morning at Trenton’s Greenwood Avenue Market to launch the Farmer’s Market season.
This weekend, Asbury Fresh Market opens its fourth season with close to 60 farmers and artisan vendors, organizer Bret Morgan said.
Held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays through early September and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at Kennedy Park, the Asbury Fresh market features fresh produce, foods, and artisan goods.
“It’s really exciting to see how the market has grown.” Morgan said, “Over the past four years we’ve evolved from a tiny little weekly event to become the area’s largest farmers and artisan goods market.”
Morgan said an additional market day was added due to the growth of their weekly Sunday event.
The city’s second and longest running AP Sunset Farmer’s Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through October in Fireman’s Park at the corner of Main Street and Sunset Avenue.
Asbury Fresh Farmer’s Market is located in Kennedy Park at the corner of Cookman and Grand avenues. Limited vendor registration is still available, Morgan said.
