Festhalle and Biergarten roof deck open this past weekend
Outdoor space on Wesley Lake can hold up to 466 patrons
Patrons Saturday and Sunday got their first taste of the roof top deck at the Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten that can hold up to 466 people.
The roof deck was open from noon to 9 p.m. on both days under a temporary certificate of occupancy [CO], according to Jennifer Lampert, a managing partner of the business. The temporary CO did not allow operations beyond those times, she said.
The Festhalle and Biergarten is hoping to secure the final CO by the end of the week so the roof can be open permanently starting next weekend.
The deck features a beer garden type layout with long table and benches, along with views of Wesley Lake, Ocean Grove and the ocean beyond.
The owners wanted the roof open, even just temporarily this past weekend, because of four events over the two days — the Wesley Lake clean-up and a scheduled pub crawl on Saturday, as well as the Restaurant Tour and the Jersey Shore Marathon on Sunday, Lampert said.
The Festhalle and Biergarten signed up for the pub crawl months ago. It also offered free beer and pretzels to participants in the Wesley Lake clean-up, as well as providing cleaning supplies and fishing nets.
In February, the popular bar and eatery opened its indoor space, which has a capacity of 269. Lines of patrons waiting to get in on weekends have been regularly reported since its opening. But complaints have also risen about a lack of parking spaces to meet the increasing demand in the downtown business district as the Festhalle and Biergarten and other new businesses continue to open.
