Fifth Avenue Band Shell gets preliminary approval
Site plans call for year round rooftop entertainment venue
New plans to move forward with reconstruction of the Fifth Avenue Pavilion band shell will go before the City Council before it can move on to the Planning Board.
Outlined during Wednesday afternoon’s Technical Review Committee [TRC], plans call for two new eating venues and a revamp of the previously proposed band shell space.
This time around, boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette is proposing a year-round rooftop entertainment space, equipped with sliding glass windows to allow for open-air synergy between the band shell and the eatery.
A solid roof replaces the previously slotted canopy design for the over 200 seat concert space with a raised stage.
Design changes include a shift to galvanized steel columns, a better all-weather product, according to project officials. The building’s façade will be a combination of glass, steel, clear aluminum and a light tones masonry.
The band shell, once a public venue, is owned by the boardwalk redeveloper. It sits atop the pavilion that houses McLoone’s Asbury Grille and Supper Club in the historic Howard Johnson’s building.
Madison Marquette’s Senior Vice President Anselm Fusco said functional changes will be made to McLoones in order to better align the space with the site changes. Among them is the shift of the main entrance.
A new restaurant will be located at the south under the band shell.
The new site plans must receive approval by the City Council, as the city’s redevelopment authority, before it can move on to the Planning Board.
