Fishbone headline’s House of Independents Grand Opening
Tickets now on sale for 8 p.m. Nov. 24 show
House of Independents has announced a lineup as eclectic as the space itself.
And to kick things off at the November 24 grand opening will be Fishbone – the trailblazing performers who fuse American Ska, Funk, Punk, Rock and the ‘Black Rock.’
“These iconic innovators will open Asbury Park’s House of Independents with a frantic, euphorically entertaining stage show that has cultivated their undisputed reputation as one of the best live acts in music history,” said House of Independents spokesman Adam Nelson of Workhouse.
The Grand Opening night begins at 7 p.m., with an 8 p.m. show time. Tickets are $20 available via the House of Independents website.
House of Independents, located in downtown district on Cookman Avenue, brings together a mix of theatre, dance, film, comedy, oddities, late night fare, and of course the music that placed Asbury Park on the global radar. Owner Morgan Sackman said the venue will also provide a home for emerging and established artists.
“Anything interesting, that’s what we want to showcase in our space,” Sackman told the triCity News. “There’s a lot of live entertainment in Asbury. We’re trying to highlight different entertainment that isn’t necessarily there already.”
The current entertainment lineup has already made a splash with two sold out shows featuring Henry Rollins on Dec 11 and 12.
Upcoming headliners also include:
New York’s avant-garde puppet theatre Lone Wolf Tribe [coming in 2016]
Philadelphia’s award winning Junk Dance on Jan 22 & 23
The Light of Day Foundation concerts [coming in 2016]
The Stress Factory comedic talent [coming in 2016]
Asbury Fresh Farmer’s Market Weekends on Nov 28, Dec 5, 12, & 19
Offseason poetry with music on Feb 13
Oddities direct from the iconic Asbury Lanes
And, the holiday classic – Christmas Carol, running from Dec 16 through 20
“With the iconic Asbury Lanes closing for “renovations” and weathering an uncertain future, we have opened our doors to some of its beloved, now homeless, programming,” Nelson said. “Asbury Lanes’ Juicy Jenn Hampton will curate ‘Asbury Lanes presents…”
The series, coined as the House’s own troupe of oddities, is inspired by burlesque to vaudeville, the sideshows of Coney Island, and the decadent splendor of Paris’ Moulin Rouge, Nelson said.
Also available as an event rental space, the House’s malleable main room features a 20-foot full bar with six local craft beers on tap, two tap wines, a full array of bottled beers, wine, and spirits where local mixologist specials will be showcased. There is a secondary beer and wine bar located in the lower level lounge. A concession stand includes a variety of soft drinks, candy and fresh popcorn and catering options are available via exclusive deals with local chefs and restaurants.
The House of Independents is located at 572 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. For more information, visit their website or Facebook page. For rentals, booking, and technical advance, contact David J. Cruse at david@houseofindependents.com.
