FISHING CLUB HOSTS ANNUAL DEAL LAKE CARP FISHING CONTEST
Top $200 Prize Will Be Awarded For The Most Caught Carp On Sunday
The Fifth Annual Asbury Park Fishing Club’s Deal Lake Carp Contest will be held from 7 a.m to noon Sunday. The event is cosponsored by the Deal Lake Commission.
Free and open to the public, the event is held to help reel in the invasive deep-bodied freshwater fish population in the 158 acre water body that borders seven Monmouth County communities.
Participants can fish any part of the lake, organizers said. Fishing licenses are required for those ages 16 – 70.
The contest will award $200 to the person who catches the most carp, organizers said. Other prizes include $100 for the largest catch, $50 second prize award and $25 for third place and the junior winner, those 12 and under.
Last year’s top winner was Cliff Daniels who caught 20 carp. Meghan Zajac nabbed the $100 prize for reeling in a 20.5 lbs carp, Buck Volek won second place with his 13.10 lbs fish, and Dave Degraw claimed third place with his 11.7 lbs catch. Meghan Zajac was the junior winner with her 20.5 lbs catch.
Weigh in will be held until noon at the Deal Lake flume, located east of 8th Avenue Jetty. Free fish for the public will be offered following the weigh in.
