The Asbury Park Police Department on Tuesday morning promoted four members of its ranks.
Former sergeant Guy Thompson was promoted to lieutenant, while former police officers Robert Armento and Lisa Smith were promoted to the rank of sergeant. Former detective Alastair Sweeney was promoted to sergeant, as well.
“I know all four of these officers well,” Chief Mark Kinmon said. “They all have a great track record and they’re all hard-working and care about what they do here.”
Of the 86 Asbury officers, 25 are now in supervisory positions, including the chief and deputy chief. The department now has five lieutenants and 15 sergeants, the chief said.
Promotions are usually sparked by retirements or by additions of new officers to the department, Kinmon said. A Community Oriented Policing Grant recently enabled the department to add six new officers from Trenton. For that story, click here.
Of the recently promoted officers, “I think they are a great addition to our supervision ranks,” Kinmon said.
