Frank Pallone to hold town hall at Langosta Lounge
Hour-long Q&A event starts 7:30 p.m. Wednesday
Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr D-6th District will hold a town hall meeting from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Langosta Lounge along the Asbury Park boardwalk.
The hour-long Q&A will cover a range of topics, including preventing gun violence, healthcare, protecting Social Security, and creating jobs of the future in Asbury Park, according to news release from event sponsor The Asbury Park Democratic Organization. But it won’t be the last of such intimate Q&A events, local party head Joseph Grillo said.
“With the 2016 election coming up, the one thing we want to do is to hear from as many elected representatives and stakeholders in Asbury Park, Monmouth County and New Jersey in general,” Grillo said. “We want to make sure that residents get as much face time as possible with these leaders.”
Grillo said Pallone’s record on affordable healthcare, post Sandy beach restoration, and job creation through the Jersey Shore and in particular Asbury Park, Pallone was the best fit to kick things off.
Pallone has served the 6th District since 1988. It is comprised of 32 municipalities throughout Monmouth and Middlesex counties. In Monmouth County, they include 18 shore area communities from Matawan and Keyport to Asbury Park, Marlboro and Middletown.
Currently the ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, his bill to ban microbeads in cosmetic items was signed into law on Dec. 29, and will take effect July 1, 2017. Used as exfoliants in personal care products, like toothpastes and face wash products, the microbeads can slip through water treatment systems.
“The President’s signature on this legislation is a major victory for U.S. waterways and the environment,” he said in a news release. “Without the ban, an estimated eight trillion plastic microbeads pollute U.S. waterways each day, threatening the environment and ultimately our health.”
Grillo said the event is open public forum that will allow attendees to ask any questions they would like. To RSVP or for more information, email Joe Grillo at joegrillo@gmail.com or call (908) 406-1901. Langosta Lounge is located at 1000 Ocean Avenue.
