Free beach movie series returns to Asbury Park
'Lego Movie', cult classic 'Jaws' to screen on the beach this summer
The Asbury Park Film Initiative [APFI] and Shore Flicks are teaming up again to bring free movies back to the beach in front of Langosta Lounge this summer, with weekly films screened on Thursdays in July and August.
“As die-hard film fans, we’re thrilled to partner with Shore Flicks again this year to bring free movies to our beloved shore,” said VJ Carbone, who co-chairs the film initiative with restauranteur Marilyn Schlossbach.
The movies begin just after sundown and are shown on Shore Flicks’ 16-foot inflatable screen [pictured above].
This year marks the fifth year the APFI has brought films to the Asbury Park beach, and the second year they have worked together with Shore Flicks.
Screenings begin Thursday, July 10 and run through Aug. 28, weather permitting.
People are encouraged to follow Shore Flicks on Facebook and Twitter for updates on the movie nights, including cancellations due to the weather.
On June 15, Libby’s Beach Shack and the Asbury Park Yacht Club will host a Crab Boil benefit to support the APFI screenings and other initiatives. Tickets are $50 per person and include wine, beer, salad, crabs and dessert. The benefit gets underway at 6 p.m. Both businesses are located at 1000 Ocean Ave. in the Second Avenue Pavilion. Tickets go on sale next week and reservations are required. For more information, call 732-455-3275.
