Gilmour is Trenton Downtown Association Executive Director
Nonprofit promotes commerce, economic renewal and tourism
Former Asbury Park Director of Economic Development Thomas Gilmour has been named Trenton Downtown Association’s [TDA] new Executive Director.
The TDA is a nonprofit created by city ordinance to manage Trenton’s Downtown Business Improvement District. The TDA promotes commerce, economic renewal and tourism in the district.
“After an extensive search process, the Board is pleased to have found an outstanding individual to lead this important community organization,” said TDA Chair Clark Martin. “His deep knowledge and experience in urban revitalization make him the right person to steward and build upon our Downtown Association’s successful record.”
Gilmour’s first day on the job will be June 6.
“I’m honored to be selected to lead the work of this organization,” Gilmour said. “Business Improvement Districts are a proven tool to provide the strategy and focus needed to attract investment and entrepreneurs, and I am looking forward to getting started.”
During his tenure with Asbury Park, Gilmour built partnerships between government, business and civic organizations, to address the needs of small businesses while enhancing the overall business environment. He’s credited by many as the “Champion of Tourism,” who played a key role in spearheading the business attraction efforts that guided the city’s resurgence.
From 2002 until his tenure ended last year when his department and position were eliminated, Gilmour played a key role in economic development and in marketing the city as a year-round destination.
In his administration of the Urban Enterprise Zone program, Gilmour oversaw grant-writing and festival management. He also serves as President of the Asbury Park Music Foundation.
Gilmour, who moved to the city after his employment here began, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bucknell University. He was awarded the 2006 New Jersey State Public Service Award from Governor Jon Corzine.
