Police confirmed reports of gunfire early Saturday morning on the 200 block of First Avenue, after a woman came to police headquarters 12 hours later to say her vehicle had been hit by a bullet.

The incident occurred on First Avenue between Kingsley and Bergh streets, across from the Phillips Seaview Tower senior citizen building, according to Chief Mark Kinmon. The report of gunfire was received at 12:20 a.m., he said.

When police responded they found no victim, and no arrests were made, Kinmon said. There was no physical evidence of shots fired, he said.

But after the woman appeared at police headquarters about noon on Saturday, police confirmed that one bullet had hit her vehicle at the scene of the incident, according to Kinmon.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Det. Daniel Kowsaluk at 732-502-5770.
