Halloween – The Asbury Style
Event raises $6,000 for The Tyler Clementi Foundation
On the surface, it was a Halloween party that celebrated everything 1990s.
The Asbury, the city’s newest hotel and entertainment venue, held its Black and Gold Halloween Ball, a Saturday evening costume and dance party that featured R&B Diva CeCe Penniston, DJ Linda, DJ Anita Buffem of Haus of Mimosa, and DJ Mick Hale.
Throughout the Fifth Avenue located venue’s first floor, there were ghoulish cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres but behind the scenes, this was an event in support of the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
The Foundation was formed in 2011 by Clementi’s parents Jane and Joseph, a year after the 18-year-old Rutgers University student who jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge on September 22, 2010.
In the five years since, the Foundation has worked to promote acceptance of LGBT teens and others marginalized by society, and advocate against all forms of bullying, including cyber bullying.
“We are all on this planet together,” DJ Linda has said in a written statement. “It’s important for everyone to be able to live and be in their own truth. There’s no room for anyone to judge you or harm you because they’re uncomfortable with where they are in their life.”
The Asbury’s Black and Gold Halloween Ball raised over $6,000 in support of the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
