Healthcare workers union backs Butch/Simmons for AP Council
HPAE represents over 12,000 nurses and healthcare workers in the state
A union that represents over 12,000 nurses and healthcare workers in the state has endorsed Felicia Simmons and Kerry Margaret Butch [above, left to right] for the Asbury Park City Council, according to a news release from the Butch-Simmons campaign.
The endorsement came from the Health Professionals and Allied Employees, AFT, AFL-CIO (HPAE), the news release stated.
“We recognize your leadership and shared vision for providing safe working conditions for health care professionals by supporting safe staffing, protecting public employee pensions and benefits, and preserving workers’ right to collectively bargain,” said President Debbie White.
“This endorsement is really meaningful to me, considering the pressures that many of our essential healthcare workers have been facing throughout the pandemic,” Butch said.
“Recognizing our advocacy for their safety, and the safety of our community touches me deeply and encourages us to keep working. We are so grateful for the support,” said Simmons.
Also in the race for the three council seats up for grabs are incumbents Amy Quinn, Eileen Chapman and Yvonne Clayton, who are running for reelection as a team, as well as independents Robert McKeon and Arthur Schlossbach.
