Heart Association CPR Training Being Offered At City Hall
Mayor's Wellness Committee hosts free life saving course 6 p.m. Tuesday
The Asbury Park Mayor’s Wellness Committee will host a CPR Training session 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Council Chambers at 1 Municipal Plaza.
Held in conjunction with the American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR program, the hour long course is designed for those who want to learn the life saving skill but do not need it for professional accreditation, Mayor John Moor said.
“This is the best thing we have done so far,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a CPR training in City Hall.”
Participants will learn the adult Hands-Only® technique, how to use an automated external defibrillator, and relieve choking in an adult, Moor said.
Launched over the summer, the Mayor’s Wellness Committee aims to promote and champion healthy and active living for all who live, work and play in Asbury Park, Chairman Michael Manzella has said. Their goals include offering fitness activities, health screenings, educational and nutritional events [ie cooking classes], blood drives and the CPR training.
“We are going to focus on all aspects of wellness; physical, social, emotional, health, and well being,” Manzella has said.
The group has since partnered with the Alliance For A Healthier Asbury Park and its members include Councilman Jesse Kendle, Lisa Lee of Project Director of Alliance for a Healthier Asbury Park & Meadowlink/EZ Ride, Lena Siddiqi of the American Heart Association, Allison Cerco of Hackensack Meridian Health, Dr. Lesley Castellini of Asbury Acupuncture, and residents Wendi Glassman and Jessie Ricks.
The Committee made its debut at this summer’s annual National Night Out event [show in feature photo]. They’ve hosted yoga in the park and participated in American Heart Association Walk and the monthly Complete Streets Coalition Light Up The Night community bike rides.
The CPR training is free and open to all adult members of the public. Participation cards will be issued. To register email wellness@cityofasburypark.com or call 732-502-5727.
