High school production nominated for two Basie Awards
Awards take place May 21 at Red Bank's Count Basie Theatre
The Asbury Park High School Drama Club’s production of “Always a Bridesmaid” has been nominated for two Basie Awards, according to a district news release.
The students’ production received nods in two categories, best set design and outstanding lead actress in a drama.
Quinn Katherine Stone is named as the potential recipient of the set design award and Alisha McKnight [shown at right] received the lead actress nomination.
The “Always a Bridesmaid” performances, which took place on November 21, 22 and 23, told the comedic story of four friends who make a promise to each other on the night of their senior to remain friends and be in each other’s weddings. More than thirty years later, though the trials and tribulations of life and love put their pact to the test, the four remain determined to honor that vow.
Initiated in 2006, awards honor excellence in high schools’ dramatic and musical theater productions throughout the county.
All schools provide four tickets to each production and the evaluation committee assesses each production, nominations are then made and a final awards ceremony ties the event together.
The Ninth Annual Awards Ceremony take place on May 21, 2014, at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.
