Holiday Window Decorating Contest kicks off Dec. 1
Residential and Business displays will be judged on creativity
It’s now quite time to open those boxes of tinsel, stringed holiday lights and ornaments but as you begin you holiday shopping keep one thing in mind: The Quality of Life Committee could be judging you.
As part of its Pride in the Park initiative, the committee, in conjunction with the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, will hold a Holiday Window Decorating Contest.
The contest is open to all residents and business owners, Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton said.
Windows will be judged on how well the holiday mood is captured and is based on warmth, anticipation, holiday, religious, cultural, and other themes. Other criteria will be how well a display reflects its theme and/or a story, demonstrates creativity and its overall pleasing design, Clayton said.
One must register with the Chamber of Commerce by Dec. 7 via email at info@asburyparkchamer.com or by calling (732) 775-7676.
The judging will be done by The Chamber of Commerce and the Quality of Life Committee as well as Homeowners Association and ARTSCAP members.
Business window displays will be judged from Dec. 1 to 4, with the winners announced during the Dec. 5 Small Business Saturday event.
Residential windows will be judged from Dec. 10 to 14, with the winners announced Dec. 16. Those prizes will be awarded based on whole house decorated exterior; whole condo/apartment decorated exterior; and window/terrace displays.
The winners will receive a surprise Asbury Park Prize Package, Clayton said.
