In the Kitchen with Mary’s Place by the Sea
Women’s Cancer Support Nonprofit Launches Plant-Based Cookbook
The women’s respite and cancer support nonprofit based in Ocean Grove has released In the Kitchen with Mary’s Place by the Sea.
Known for its holistic services and offerings that compliment a woman’s medical treatment, Mary’s Place by the Sea founders have developed a vegan menu that is based on fueling one’s body with the best possible nutrients.
“At Mary’s Place by the Sea, we wholeheartedly believe in preparing meals for our guests that provide the nourishment they need to fight their disease,” Cofounder Michele Gannon said. “Food plays a key role in nourishing our guests: mind, body and soul. This recipe book will be an opportunity for our guests and supporters to experience our healthy, delicious dishes in their own home.”
Founded in 2009, Mary’s Place by the Sea operates a ten-bedroom facility, located on Main Avenue, that offers women with cancer everything from oncology massage, nutritional education and guided meditation to yoga, expressive writing and counseling. To date, they have served over 8,000 women.
“Our guests enjoy plant-based breakfast and lunch here at Mary’s Place,” Cofounder Maria McKeon said. “Our in-house Chef Cathy Russo puts love into every pinch and dash. We are thrilled to share the recipes that she uses to nourish our guests.”
The plant-based recipe book includes over 75 pages of healthy, nutritious recipes and colorful photographs of dishes that have been offered at Mary’s Place.
“These recipes will surprise you,” Russo said. “Many people are skeptical of vegan dishes, but this book will prove to you that healthy and nutritious can in fact be delicious.”
The cookbooks will serve as a fundraising initiative for the non-profit organization, which provides all its services to guests free of charge.
In the Kitchen with Mary’s Place by the Sea is available for $30 via the nonprofit’s website.
