Inaugural ‘Halloween Funraiser’ – 10 a.m. Saturday
Community sponosred event hosted by The Asbury Park Mermaid
A new Halloween extravaganza hosted by The Asbury Park Mermaid will take place Saturday morning.
Parents and children of all ages are invited to take part in a pre-trick-or-treating ‘Halloween Funraiser.’
The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Grand Arcade inside the historic Convention Hall along the Asbury Park boardwalk.
“Halloween is a holiday that everyone can relate to in some way,” said AP Mermaid spokeswoman Josephine Sidhu. “We wanted to do something different and fun for all to enjoy this year.”
The inaugural event is cosponsored by an array of community members and will feature treats from local merchants, face painting and a magic show.
Regular Asbury Park boardwalk performer ‘The Dork of Deception’ will be making an appearance with a very special magic show, Sidhu said.
The Asbury Park Police Department will give a speech on general safety and volunteers from the Asbury Park School District’s Art Department will be on hand to provide face painting.
Boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette is donating the space and treats are being provided by Wegmans in Ocean Township, Purple Glaze Donuts on Summerfield, and Langosta Lounge, also on the boardwalk.
“We are fortunate to have great members within our community of all ages and backgrounds ready, willing and able to help make this magic happen in one of Asbury Park’s most easily recognizable venues,” Sidhu said.
