Intoxicated driver shatters telephone pole in collision

Man, 28, was found with heroin in his possession

A 28-year-old Red Bank man who was allegedly driving under the influence crashed into a telephone pole in Allenhurst Wednesday, shattering it and causing extensive damage to his vehicle.

At approximately 9:05 a.m., on August 13th, police responded to a motor vehicel crash at the intersection of Corlies and Norwood avenues where they found one car had crashed head-on into a telephone pole, according to Allehurst Police Department Capt. Michael Schneider.

The driver, whose name was not released, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and brought back to police headquarters by the department’s drug recognition officer, he said.

He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of controlled dangerous substances [CDS; heroin], unlawful possession of a prescription drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia and was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to keep right, reckless driving, and having CDS in a motor vehicle. He was released after posting $2,500 bail.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and the pole replaced by a local power company, said Schneider.

Patrolman Dave Lipari and Chief Robert Richter were the investigating officers. Deal police assisted with traffic at the scene.
