iStar to Light Crane
Cheripka: We want the lights on the crane to symbolize the positive change that is coming
As a nod to the City’s creative spirit and a statement that redevelopment plans are underway as planned, waterfront redeveloper iStar will light the crane currently at work at its 1101 Ocean project in time for this weekend’s Oysterfest, a company spokesperson said.
“Successful redevelopment along the Asbury Park waterfront, especially on the former Esperanza site, is long overdue,” iStar’s Vice President of Land and Development Brian Cheripka said. “We want the lights on the crane to symbolize the positive change that is coming. Step by step, we are getting it done.”
The lighting will occur near 7 p.m. and will continue to brighten the waterfront skyline through the construction.
Located at the site of the formerly planned C-8 and Esperanza waterfront tower projects, the 1101 Ocean high rise will be the waterfront redeveloper’s first oceanfront project.
Designed by Manhattan-based architect Gary Handel, the 1101 Ocean high rise will include 128 residential units: 23 one-bedroom units, 70 two-bedroom units, 33 three-bedroom units, and two four-bedroom units. The remainder of the project boasts a 58-room luxury hotel, 21,928-square-foot retail space, 11,837-square-foot amenity space, and a 414 stall parking garage.
Oysterfest, the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce signature event, launched at 5 p.m. Friday and will continue through 10 p.m. with its free community night at Bradley Park, located at Fifth and Ocean avenues.
It runs 11 a.m .to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a $3 admission in support of the Chamber of Commerce Roy Werts Memorial Scholarship and Community Affairs and Resource Center. There will also be an opportunity to dunk a politician, running noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Children ages 6 and under can enter free of charge. The event is dog friendly and a special bicycle parking area is available on site. For more information, visit asburyparkchamber.com.
