Jersey Shore Hurricane News To Land On AP Boardwalk
Listening Post gives public chance to share thoughts on local issues
Jersey Shore Hurricane News [JSHN] is landing on the Asbury Park boardwalk this weekend.
The hyperlocal two-way news outlet focuses on reporting real time, for the people and by the people, coastal news, traffic, and weather in Ocean, Monmouth, Atlantic and Cape May counties.
The JSHN team will visiting town from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, collecting thoughts and voices for their Listening Post project, organizers said.
There will be opportunities for the public to participate and share thoughts on local issues, Community Engagement Editor Kelly Schott said.
JSHN was launched in August 2011 via Facebook around the time of Hurricane Irene by Justin Auciello. The media outlet launched its iteration of The Listening Post project, which began in New Orleans by Jesse Hardman, just over a year ago.
The project’s primary focus is to listen, engage, and inform local communities by gathering thoughts and opinions on local issues, Schott said. This is done via text surveys, physical signs and cards posted around towns, Q&As, and interviews with local officials and organizations, as well as via a physical audio recording booth.
