John McGillion’s newest Asbury Park addition is being named Candy Bar, announced at a bar-naming party on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

McGillion owns Johnny Mac’s tavern on Main Street between Cookman and Mattison avenues, as well as several bars in Brooklyn and Manhattan. He held a bar-naming contest, promising $500 to the winner, to name the new Kingsley Street spot, as well as two new bars in New York.

The new bar is located in the former Adriatic Restaurant building, between Sixth and Sunset avenues. The bar is intended to cater to the gay community.

McGillion also recently purchased the former YMCA on Main Street. He plans to built a bar there, as well as a hostel on the upper floors. He also hopes to build a hostel on the upper floors of the Adriatic and expand the upper floor of the Johnny Mac’s building into a neighboring property.
