Former Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson promised his post-mayor days would be active.

Plans include the start of his own consulting firm — Ed Johnson Asbury Park — that will bring his knowledge of community building and resource management to governments, private companies and non-profit agencies, according to his new firm’s website.

And Johnson [shown above with the late Senator Frank Lautenberg] is also speaking on his political and government experience, starting with a two hour seminar on Tuesday, July 30, at Brookdale Community College.

The event is called Running for Political Office, according to a news release from Johnson.

The seminar is for those thinking about running for political office, working in a campaign or for the “political novice interested in the inside views,” the release stated.

“After 15 years serving as Mayor, City Councilman and UEZ Chairman, he knows all about the ins and outs of campaigning for political office at the local level. Whether its campaign strategy, grass roots organizing or the grand ole style of campaign barn storming, He’s been through it and survived it all,” according to the news release.

“Hear about his experience, perspective and observations of one of the most exciting experiences of his life – Running For Political Office,” the release said.

The seminar is sponsored by the Brookdale Office of Business & Community Development: Life Long Learning, said Johnson, whose full-time job is director of the Brookdale Long Branch Center.

The two hour seminar on July 30 runs from 7-9 p.m. at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. To register call (732) 224-2315 or visit Brookdalecc.edu. The cost is $29 per person.
