JT Bowen & Nicky Addeo to Rock Springwood Park Tonight
Free 6 p.m. Levitt AMP concert throws back to west side music history
The Levitt AMP Asbury Park Music Series organizers have announced that Monday night’s free concert at Springwood Park will feature west side performer JT Bowen, the legendary singer of Clarence Clemons & The Red Bank Rockers.
Bowen and his new band – The Mighty Kings of Soul – will headline, with an opening performance by west side entertainer Nicky Addeo.
Bowen began his career in the early 1960s as part of The Rockets, a Maryland based R&B band. He met the late Clemons, a then sax player for The Vibrations, there, according to a news release
After moving to New Jersey, by decade’s end, Bowen performed with west side groups – the Soul Flame and The Chosen Few, which united him with Clemons.
Addeo, who made a name for himself during the 1960s west side music scene, has performed with Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Vini Lopez, and Eddie Manion, now the saxophonist for the E Street Band.
The free Monday night concert series is sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music.
Through a collaboration with the Asbury Park Music Foundation, Interfaith Neighbors and the city, the family-friendly Levitt AMP Asbury Park Music Series is held at Springwood Park, between Atkins and Union avenues. The series also is sponsored in part by the Asbury Park Press, and New Jersey Natural Gas.
Organizers suggest bringing out your lawn chairs and blankets, and free parking is available across the street from the park.
