A known gang member found to be in possession of three firearms was arrested on Tuesday after running from the police, Asbury Park Police Captain Anthony Salerno said.

At around 5 p.m. on Jan. 29, Rahiem Gresham, 19, of Asbury Park, fled during a police investigation, Salerno said. Officer Frank Sangi pursued the suspect. The foot chase began in the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue and concluded at Comstock Street and Bangs Avenue, Salerno said, where Gresham was arrested.

During the chase, Gresham threw aside three handguns — two .22-caliber loaded semiautomatic handguns and a .357 magnum revolver, unloaded — as he ran, Salerno said.

“Gresham is a known Blood gang member,” Salerno said.

He was charged with obstruction of government, resisting arrest through flight, and three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. He is being held at Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $200,000 bail, with no 10-percent option.
