Kula Cafe weekend geared toward city’s youth
Free events include open Mic, Storytime and movies in the park
Kula Café has lined up a few day of events geared toward the city’s youth.
On Saturday, the monthly K.Y.D.S. Open Mic night will kick off at 5:45 p.m. at the 1201 Springwood Ave café.
The “One Mic One Soul” event is presented by Konscious Youth Development and Service. All city youth and young adults from the surrounding area are invited.
On Sunday Kula will present a story time afternoon. The special event dedicated to kids will begin at 12:30 p.m. features free silver dollar pancakes, coffee for the adults, stories and drawing.
Tuesday night’s free movies in the Springwood Avenue Park continues this week with a 7:30 p.m. viewing of Big Hero Six. Popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for .50 cents. Moviegoers are asked to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for their comfort.
The movies in the park schedule includes an August 11 viewing of Dolphin Tale 2 and an August 25 viewing of the Transformers.
The park is located across from Kula Café at Springwood and Atkins Avenue.
The Café’s name Kula is a noun meaning: 1. Community of the heart 2. A group coming together of its own free will; an intentional community [of Melanesian origin] or as a Swahili verb to Eat.
