Kūr Wellness Studios Celebrates One Year on Bond
Offers $199 unlimited yoga thru Labor Day at 6:30 p.m. Fri anniversary bash
In his search to shift his focus to healthy living Angelo Dipuma found an unlikely mentor.
“My unhealthy lifestyle moved me deeply, and feelings of helplessness soon turned into a fiery passion to make a difference and embark on a journey to find a place of wellness,” Dipuma said via a written statement.
He found that place at Bond Street located Kūr Wellness Studios, close to an hour away from his home.
“I will never forget that first day I walked into Kūr Studios, where my outlook on health would change dramatically,” Dipuma said. He now receives personal training and massage sessions from his personal practitioner Rich every week.
“To me a role model is someone in my life that has influenced me in a positive way,” Dipuma said. “They help shape the way I am in the present and what I will be in the future.”
His commitment to healthy living now equates to three visits per week.
“You can physically see the differences in him,” Studio owner Troy Teeboom [at right] said in a telephone interview. “You don’t know how much you are really changing someone’s life until you ask.”
Located in what has become the city’s health and wellness district, Kūr is celebrating its one year anniversary Friday.
Teeboom said he opened the wellness center after his own personal experience with health issues.
“Once you start fixing a body that’s been ignored the pain sets in, so getting massages was the only way I could find relief,” he said.
Teeboom spent much of his adult life getting monthly spa treatments but when he couldn’t find what he was looking for along the Jersey Shore, he took a leap of faith. Soon the former corporate marketing executive was searching for a venue to offer one-on-one personal training, yoga, and spa services.
Last year, the New Hampshire native’s dream was realized. He transformed the former Clayton Press building on Bond into a wellness center that offers more than 100 traditional and Ayurvedic treatments and services. They include a full menu of massage, skin care and waxing therapies, rejuvenating hand and foot rituals, detoxifying treatments, and variety of yoga classes and workshops.
“The reward of running a business that has helped so many is what I’m most proud of,” Teeboom said in a written statement. “We’ve had clients quit smoking, loose significant weight, solve chronic pain and digestive issues.”
Clients also have become less stressed, more positive, with improved posture, better sleeping habits, and increased flexibility, he said.
In developing the Kūr Wellness Studios, Teeboom took particular care to incorporate the historic printing facility’s design into the décor; styling each massage room, spa and yoga space into a modern space that nods to the past. Equally important, was the balance of staff.
“For a business to be successful you have to cater to your community and take particular care in choosing the right staff,” he said.
That staff includes Ayurvedic Nutritionist Kimberly, who helps those looking to solve digestive issues and make better lifestyle choices, takes a personal approach to her therapy that is based on an individual’s body type. She sets off with a 90-minute consult that is followed up with a few visits that allows each person to then check in as needed.
“It has been a lifelong exploration that has led me to now be able to help others with their goals,” she said. “It is a gradual slow-and-steady that wins the race. We think everything has to be so mystified, yet what is in front of us can often bring a lot of change.”
Massage Therapist Tara said, “Kūr has given me the outlet I’ve been searching for to provide people with life enhancing treatments.”
At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Kūr will celebrate its anniversary by inviting the public to participate in studio tours, demonstrations and wellness conversations. Hors d’oeuvres will be passed and the first 100 guests will receive an insulated Kur Tote Bag.
Teeboom will offer unlimited yoga through Labor Day at a cost of $199, which can be purchased at the event. Each paid booking during the event will receive a free Sranrom aromatherapy retail gift [$20 average value].
