KYDS Hosts Family Fun Day
Mindful Meditation, Journey Summer Program, and Open Mic On The Bill
Rodney Salomon and Mychal Mills [shown in feature photo] set out with one goal in mind – to help the area’s youth make better choices during times of stress.
The Monmouth University graduates, who had separately embraced a holistic lifestyle, came together to form Konscious Youth Development and Service [KYDS].
They began a few years back with an open mic night entitled One Mic One Soul and has since grown to form a nonprofit that administers holistic-based programs not only in schools across the Jersey Shore but biweekly meditation for all ages at Kula Café on Springwood Avenue.
On Saturday the duo will host Family Day – a chance for parents and children of all ages to learn about their upcoming offerings, like the four-week Journey Summer Program open to fourth and fifth grade students.
The day will begin at 2:45 p.m. with a Family Day Meditation at Kula Café.
At 3:15 p.m. they will move over to the neighboring Kula Farm for a community garden event that will be followed by a 4:15 p.m. Kula Café Dinner.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the One Mic One Soul event, which brings together those interested in showcasing their poetry, music, dance, comedic, and spoken word talents. A 5:45 p.m. Mindful Meditation precedes the 6:15 p.m. show.
Kula Café is located at 1201 Springwood Ave. To learn more about KYDS, visit their website, Facebook and Instagram pages.
