Langosta preps for April reopening parties
Schlossbach's boardwalk businesses receive major facelift
After sustaining heavy damage during Hurricane Sandy, popular boardwalk restaurant Langosta Lounge is almost ready to reopen in time for Earth Day.
“We really wanted to be kicking off our new beginning on Earth Day beecause it’s an important holiday for us and it gives us a goal to attain,” owner Marilyn Schlossbach said today.
On April 21, Langosta Lounge will host a food and wine tasting party with Felipe Rose of the Village People and other musical guests. Tickets will be available for purchase online at kitschens4sandy.com soon. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Restore the Shore and Waves for Water.
On April 22, which is Earth Day, Schlossbach’s surf bar, Asbury Park Yacht Club, will be open to the public for another celebration featuring Brinley’s Rum. T-shirts designed by local artists will be for sale, with $5 from each sale benefiting Restore the Shore and Waves for Water.
Schlossbach [pictured above in Asbury Park Yacht Club] hopes to receive the necessary certifications and inspections from the city prior to the two events, she said.
Prior to Hurricane Sandy, the restaurant occupied the Third Avenue boardwalk pavilion, with Lightly Salted Surf Shop and Pop’s Garage, a more casual eatery, adjacent. All three businesses are owned by Schlossbach and her partners.
The businesses are receiving a major facelift before the April 21 reopening. Langosta Lounge will be reconfigured with a larger bar, a larger stage in the rear and lounge seating for people watching live musical performances.
Schlossbach also will open her new bar, Asbury Park Yacht Club, in the space where Lightly Salted and Pop’s Garage previously were. Between Langosta Lounge and the Asbury Park Yacht Club, Schlossbach will open Libby’s Beach Shack, a casual seafood fast-food restaurant, during the day in the summer. At night and in the off-season, Libby’s will function as a lounge.
Pop’s Garage will move over to the storefront that housed Siculiano’s Pizza until its closer last summer. With these changes, Schlossbach will be operating most of the Third Avenue pavilion businesses, except for the Silverball Pinball Museum.
Workers are currently constructing the interiors of all of the businesses.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Schlossbach said.
