Asbury Park based attorney, social justice and community advocate Luanne Peterpaul has been tapped by Mayor John Pallone to serve as the next municipal court judge in Long Branch, city officials have announced.
“I believe Luanne will be a welcomed selection for the City of Long Branch,” Pallone said in a written statement. “Her background demonstrates extensive knowledge of the law. She is an advocate of social justice and her dedication to these causes are very apparent.”
The appointed, slated to occur by resolution during the 7:30 pm Wednesday City Council meeting, will take effect immediately and expires July 31, 2021.
Peterpaul, one of the state’s leaders for LGBTQ rights and equality, served 12 years on the board of Garden State Equality and as Chair of its Equality Action Fund. Her is largely credited as a driving force behind marriage equality.
Peterpaul, a contributing columnist for triCity News, was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the LGBTQ Rights Section of the NJ State Bar Association.
Locally, she has been at the forefront in supporting youth education, especially in areas of diversity. And in 2011, Gov. Chris Christie signed into law the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights she helped co author, considered one of the strongest in the nation
Peterpaul is a partner and the principal at Peterpaul Law. She is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of New Jersey, and the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
The eponymous practice handles everything from employment law and business litigation to labor and school issues. Peterpaul also is a frequent speaker on employment, discrimination issues and anti-bullying in schools and the workplace, presenting on programs sponsored by the American Bar Association, New Jersey Judicial College, EEOC, NJICLE, NJSBA, Legal One, American Council on Diversity, Rutgers University, Kean University, and for numerous clients.
