A Long Branch woman faces drug charges after ingesting heroin in the Ocean Police Department bathroom Monday morning, a department spokesman said in a written news statement.

Amy M. Mauer, 36, is charged with possession of heroin, a hypodermic syringe and drug paraphernalia.

According to the report, Mauer was at the police department near 10:15 a.m. retrieving items from the Records Bureau, when she chose to use the public bathroom in the lobby to ingest heroin.

Police Officer Nicholas Castellano was alerted by a civilian staff after Mauer became incoherent, officials said. Further investigation confirmed that Mauer ingested heroin, and three doses of Narcan was administered.

The Oakhurst First Aid transported her to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for further treatment. She was released on a criminal summons pending a future court appearance, officials said.

Officers involved in the investigation included Castellano, Sgt. Timothy Macom and Lt. Eduardo Segarra.
