Letter: Hurricane Harvey Relief From Move For Hunger
Lowy: Food banks play a vital role in the response to natural disasters.
Editor, Asbury Park Sun,
To all of our friends and partners who are living in the area impacted by Hurricane Harvey, please know that we are thinking about you during this incredibly difficult time. We hope that you, and your families, are safe and that the flood waters recede quickly so the recovery process can begin.
Food banks play a vital role in the response to natural disasters. There are several food banks in the region, but their ability to help may currently be compromised due to the storm. Feeding Texas is a network of food banks that is coordinating the recovery efforts throughout the state. Please consider making a monetary donation to help them provide meals to families struggling in the immediate aftermath of this catastrophic event.
During Superstorm Sandy, we saw an outpouring of support from our network in and around New Jersey. Some people held food drives. Others volunteered trucks and drivers to deliver donations to food banks. If there is anyone who would like to help in the recovery process, please let me know so that we can figure out the best way to utilize your time and resources.
Unfortunately, the rain is still coming down, and things are going to get a bit worse before they get better. This is an unprecedented storm and it’s going to take a massive response to help support the victims. For those of you who wish to help, we will be back in touch when we have better information regarding the needs on the ground. Thank you for your willingness to take action during this crisis.
