Ocean Grove resident and photographer Chris Spiegel is no stranger to Friday Foto. In fact, this is his third go-around in as many months.
One of Spiegel’s favorite subjects to shoot is lightning. His first Friday Foto featured a shot of The Great Auditorium with lightning striking in the background. This week, he shows Sun readers a beautiful interpretation of nature’s wrath just outside the south end of The Casino on the Asbury Park-Ocean Grove border.
“This photo was taken within five minutes of showing up to shoot a thunderstorm on June 22,” Spiegel said. “I chose the location because it was the closest covered area with an unobstructed view of the sky I could think of in biking distance from my house. It was raining pretty hard so I had to take cover and shoot from further away from the entrance than I originally hoped for, incorporating more of the inside of the building in the shot. I was happily surprised that I was able to get the shot immediately and was able to effectively incorporate the checkerboard floor pattern into the shot without it distracting from the rest of the scene.”
