Little Tots II owner sentenced to 3 years on fraud charges
Sentence includes 20-year ban on conducting businesses with the state
The Asbury Park daycare owner charged with fraudulently receiving more than $40,000 in contracts with the Asbury Park Board of Education has been sentenced to three years in a state prison, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Friday.
Sylvia B. Brodrick, 59, of Shadow Lawn Drive in the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, was sentenced Tuesday by Superior Court Judge Ronald L. Reisner, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s spokesman Charles Webster said.
Brodrick owned and operated Little Tots II on Mattison Avenue.
The prison sentence addresses each of the two counts of making false material representation in performance of a government contract, a second degree charge.
At her guilty plea in July, Brodrick admitted to submitting expenses for an individual she reported was working as a janitor, but who was not in fact employed at the daycare center.
As part of her sentence, Brodrick will be ineligible to bid, contract, or otherwise conduct business with the state or any political subdivisions for a period of 20 years, Webster said.
The ban will affect her and any entity (corporation, partnership, association, or proprietorship where she is a principal), where she directly or indirectly controls more than 10 percent of the stock or other equity interest, Webster said.
The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor David Fritch. Brodrick was represented by Robert Honecker of Ocean Township.
