Local election results: Charter Study Commission approved
Small top vote-getter; unofficial BOE results also in
The unofficial results are in for Asbury Park’s election yesterday, and a local charter study commission has been approved with five members.
Results for the board of education [BOE] election are also in. Although that race is tighter, it appears Qzeena Taylor, Rev. Geneva Smallwood, Barbara Lesinski and Christian Hall have prevailed.
County workers are still counting fax and email ballots, and official results should be complete by Friday, County Clerk M. Claire French said today. Details on write-in results should also be ready by then.
CHARTER STUDY COMMISSION
The charter study commission has won with 1,576 — or 74 percent — votes in favor and 562 — 26 percent — votes against it.
The commission will scrutinize the city’s charter, or form of government, and possibly recommend changes. Any recommended changes will be put to a public vote.
The commission will have five members, and the five city residents who sought candidacy have secured those spots. The division of the 6,110 total votes was as follows:
• Duanne “King” Small [pictured above] is the highest vote-getter, receiving 1,402 votes, or 23 percent.
• Rita M. Marano is second, with 1,232 votes, or 20 percent.
• Pamela “Pam” Lamberton received 1,180 votes, or 19 percent.
• Randy Thompson received 1,126 votes, or 18 percent.
• Michele Maguire received 1,111 votes, or 18 percent.
• Fifty-nine write-in votes were cast.
• The total number of votes cast according to the county is 6,110.

Barbara Lesinski, Christian Hall and Geneva Smallwood are in the lead for the three full terms according to the county’s unofficial results information.
The three highest vote-getters will win full terms. The votes for the full terms are divided among the six candidates as follows:
