Local runners raise $40,000+ for Boys and Girls Club
28 trained together for races
A group of local runners raised $41,591 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County [BGCM] by participating in the New Jersey Marathon and Long Branch Half Marathon on Sunday, May 5.
Team BGCM was led by Middletown resident Douglas Eagles, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, and Shrewsbury resident Lisi Klus. Team members either ran the 13.1-mile half marathon or the 26.2-mile full marathon, beginning at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport and through Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, Deal, Allenhurst, Loch Arbour, Asbury Park and Ocean Grove.
Eagles and Klus organized the team of 28 runners, who trained and fundraised together for several months prior to the races. Each team member was asked to raise at least $1,035 to sponsor one annual membership for a Boys & Girls Club member. Team members were paired with a Club member to sponsor and received that boy or girl’s profile, updates on their progress, and handmade cards from the kids themselves.
Members of Team BGCM are Asbury Park Police Chief Mark Kinmon; BGCM Board President Hana Wolf of Interlaken; Michael Garrison of Fair Haven; Jessica Ford of Neptune; Ryan Kelly of Little Silver; Craig Kolb of Fair Haven; Andrew Forrest of Red Bank; Darryn Murphy of Rumson; John, Jaime, and Gianna Tirrell of Long Branch; Jason Wallace of Red Bank; Harris Davis of Fair Haven; Corinne Woodward of Shrewsbury; Don Butler of Fair Haven; Robert Samuels of Fair Haven; Heather Schulze of Ocean Grove; Holly McGovern of Ocean Grove; Jessica Gale of Astoria, NY; Bernard Figueroa of Asbury Park; Meg Boushie of Little Silver; Susan Matulewicz of Belleville; Samantha Fallon of Red Bank; Frank Toth of Jackson; Marcus Jones of South Bound Brook; Sandra Ash of Barnegat; Annie Steckroth of West Hartford, CT; and Cindy Assini of Hillsborough.
