The ocean is open to swimmers today although lifeguards evacuated the water yesterday due to a stingray sighting.
Lifeguards have not seen any stingrays today, Loch Arbour’s head of lifeguards John Bosmans said. The water was evacuated at 3:15 p.m. yesterday because of a sighting of rays 15 to 20 feet off the shoreline.
Loch Arbour had an incidence of stingrays in the swimming area last year as well, Bosmans said, and this year’s sea life activity has been similar to other years.
“We’ve had more rip currents than usual but nothing out of the ordinary as far as sea life,” Bosmans said. “This was the first thing we’ve really seen all summer.
