Long Branch man is victim in weekend shooting in Asbury
He gives no information on shooting location or possible suspects
A 20-year-old man from Long Branch suffered non-life threatening injuries during a shooting in Asbury Park Sunday night.
Asbury Park police received multiple anonymous calls around 10:30 p.m. reporting four to five shots fired near Third Avenue and Jeffries Street, Captain Anthony Salerno said.
Police responded but found “no evidence, no witnesses and nothing could be seen in the dark,” Salerno said.
Around 11 p.m., the police department received a call from Jersey Shore Medical Center alerting them to a gunshot victim, he said. The victim was unable to tell police the location of the shooting or who might have shot him, according to Salerno.
Asbury Park police returned to search the area “in the early morning hours, as soon as sunrise came,” said Salerno. They located “four shell casing and an unspent round and a projectile that struck a house nearby,” he said.
The Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are still investigating the shooting.
Anyone with information related to the incident can call Detective April Bird at 732-502-5770.
